Microblading by Kat

I was first licensed as a Microblading Artist in 2018 and have spent the last 4 years serving clients who are in search of soft, natural brows. In 2022 I returned to my home state of Alabama. I offer both traditional Microblading (suitable for normal to dry skin) and Ombre/Powder Brows (suitable for all skin types, required for oily skin).

Originally a fine arts major in college with a fondness for drawing portraits, I love helping someone bring balance to their features with well defined brows to compliment their face shape.

Outside of the world of brows you can catch me teaching at the Aveda Institute of Birmingham where my specialty in hair color theory has helped lay the perfect foundation for my ability to match your brow color based on both natural and colored hair as well as your natural skin tone. Let’s bring your brow dreams to life!

FAQ

Will Microblading work for me?

One of the two options - Microblading or Powdered Brows - will work for you! Both can accomplish the same goal of enhancing you brow shape while still looking natural. Powdered brows are required for oily skin or clients who are active/sweat often. Powdered brows also are the go-to for truly replacing your makeup while some clients prefer the option of being able to add makeup on top of their microblading.

During our consultation we will discuss which option will best suit your goals. What if you can’t decide? No problem, we can always start with microblading and add on the powdered look at the touch up appointment for a small fee.

Pro tip: If you have little to no existing hair then your brow tattoo will appear more two-dimensional than clients who have more hair naturally. A combination of microblading and powdered brows would be ideal.

How will we choose the shape and color?

We will choose this together! I’ll always offer my professional opinion if you’d like, but ultimately this is your face and your choice. Do keep in mind that the pigment goes into the skin under the brows. If you have blonde brows and you want medium to dark brown microblading then you will need to keep up with tinting your natural brow hairs regularly so the blonde hair will not obscure the microbladed brow.

Is it painful?

This response varies from person to person, but I have never had someone have to stop the procedure because of pain. This procedure also hurts significantly less than traditional tattooing which is important to keep in mind! A numbing cream is used prior to beginning the procedure and a penetrative numbing gel is used during the procedure to help maintain comfort. You may experience more sensitivity if the procedure is performed during your menstrual cycle.

How long does it last?

This is also a response that varies from person to person. Both microblading and powered brows are considered semi-permanent and typically last around 12 months. The color will lighten and the lines will soften over time. Some people will feel like they need a touch up at 8-9 months and some people can go as long as 18 months.

Depending on a person’s response to the pigment the color can adapt a greyish or pinkish tone. This can usually be corrected with complimentary pigments during touch up sessions with your artist. A build up of dead skin and makeup on top of the tattoo can also make the pigment appear grey so be sure to keep the area clean and well moisturized once healed!

Please note that final results CANNOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. Sun exposure, tanning, skin treatments and certain beauty products can also influence breakdown of the microblade pigment. Microblading will become less crisp overtime and will need touch ups at regular intervals to maintain.

How much does it cost?

Initial cost includes the initial session and a touch-up between 30-60 days and is as follows:

$ 550 Microbladed brow

$ 650 Powdered brow

$ 650 Microbladed with powdered brow

Note: If you do not receive your touch up within the time frame above then your touch up will be an additional $200. You may also request an additional touch-up to go darker/larger/bolder for $200.

Annual refresher sessions for brows originally done by Kat are $350 for either Microblading or Powdered brows.

Feel free to bring any questions you have with you to your consultation appointment as I’d be more than happy to answer them all!

Important to remember:

  • Discontinue use of any strong acids or retin-a products on or around the brow for two weeks before and after procedure. This is will directly effect the color retention and tone during healing!

  • No trips to the beach/lake for two weeks post-procedure

  • No heavy exercising for 10 days post-procedure - be especially careful with this if you are a heavy sweater!

  • No Accutane or Chemotherapy for AT LEAST one year prior to procedure.

  • Cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.

Before & Aftercare

BEFORE

  • Stop using skin thinners (vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) on the brow area 2 weeks prior to and after your appointment.

  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, Goody’s powder) 48 hours before your procedure, to avoid excess bleeding. Excess bleeding pushes pigment from the skin and causes brows to heal too light.

  • No antibiotics for 1 month prior.

  • Avoid sun/ tanning bed exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the microblade pigment with it.

  • Brow waxing/shaping and tinting should be completed prior to your appointment and skin should be free of any irritation at time of appointment.

  • Cosmetic botox/fillers should be completed at least 2 weeks in advance.

AFTER

  • When you get home GENTLY remove the protective layer of ointment with a damp paper towel and keep dry for 2 days.

  • I recommend washing the tattooed area gently 2 times a day with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Only apply a THIN layer of moisturizer when it is becomes VERY dry. Keep it out of the sun throughout the healing process. Do not apply ANY cosmetics in this area and avoid sweating for AT LEAST 10 days. Keep the area clean and let it breathe!

  • During the healing process PLEASE DO NOT:

    • Apply any brow makeup for 2 weeks.

    • Scratch or remove scabs, dry skin/flakiness.

    • Use Vaseline, A&D ointment, Aquaphor, Neosporin and any other petroleum based products.

    • Engage in activities that will cause sweating for 10 days.

    • Use swimming pools, hot tubs or other bodies of water for 14 days.

    • Come in contact with UV exposure (including tanning booths).

    • Use laser light therapy, as it can darken/lighten or distort the pigment.

    • Use exfoliants, retinol acids or alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) products on the area for 30 days after the appointment (causes premature fading of pigment).

    • Receive facial massages, facials or skin treatments for 4 weeks.

  • Failure to follow the proper aftercare can cause loss of pigment, pigment discoloration, and possibly infection.

What to expect following your appointment:

  • The treated area will flake during the healing process

  • The brows will appear darker and more intense in the first week and will soften to a more natural look once the healing is complete. Colors may also appear more orange/red in tone during the healing process but will not heal this way.

  • It is completely normal for brows to look patchy during the healing process.

  • During the healing process the brows can also seem like they’ve disappeared – this is due to the new surface skin which is temporarily less transparent. The color will start to rebound during the 30 day healing process.

  • Brow tattoos are a two-step process. The final look of your brow will not be achieved until after your touch up appointment. Loss of pigment after your first appointment is normal and will be addressed during your touch up appointment.

  • Your touch up appointment will need to be completed after 30 days but no longer than 60 days after your first appointment and is included in the cost of your first appointment. If you do not receive your touch up within the time frame above then your touch up will be an additional $200. You may also request an additional touch-up to go darker/larger/bolder for $200.
